Matthew 5:11 – 16 NKJV

Matthew 5:11 NKJV

“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.

Matthew 5:12

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 5:13

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

Matthew 5:14

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Matthew 5:15

Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Leviticus 2:11 NKJV

‘No grain offering which you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey in any offering to the Lord made by fire.

Leviticus 2:12

As for the offering of the firstfruits, you shall offer them to the Lord, but they shall not be burned on the altar for a sweet aroma.

Leviticus 2:13

And every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt; you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt.

Colossians 4:5 NKJV

Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.

Colossians 4:6

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

Redeeming the time; that is, either “improving every opportunity of doing them good, and making the best use of your time in proper duty” (diligence in redeeming time very much recommends religion to the good opinion of others), or else “walking cautiously

speech be always with grace, v. 6. Let all your discourse be as becomes Christians, suitable to your profession—savoury, discreet, seasonable.” Though it be not always of grace, it must be always with grace; and, though the matter of our discourse be that which is common, yet there must be an air of piety upon it and it must be in a Christian manner seasoned with salt. Grace is the salt which seasons our discourse, makes it savory,

What is salt?

Salt is -

1. Grace

Using Grace for Purification (walk in wisdom)

John 17:15 NKJV

I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.

Dispensing Grace for Purpose  (create the flavor)

Mark 9:49 NKJV

“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.

Mark 9:50

Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

Salt is –

2. Gospel

John 8:1 NKJV

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

John 8:2

Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.

John 8:3

Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,

John 8:4

they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.

John 8:5

Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”

John 8:6

This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.

John 8:7

So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

John 8:8

And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

John 8:9

Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

John 8:10

When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

John 8:11

She said, “No one, Lord.”

And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

John 8:12

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
