Seeds And The Future

Posted on 20 January 2009 by Marty Sloan (3)

Today of course is the presidential inauguration,  no doubt this day is historical!   Historical things are very important.  A few years ago I was in Washington DC, my presence there was to be in attendance at an event that honored Israel.  During the day I had some time so I toured.  I took the several block walk from my hotel to view various buildings, and  after seeing things such as the FBI building, the Navy memorial and other amazing items I found myself at this entrance of the National Archives Museum.  My personality is one of the present/future, I seldom think of my past, I live for today and tomorrow.  I never wonder what my high school friends are doing (sorry RHS class of ‘92) or what happened to the kid name Jamie in the 4th grade (hey at least I could remember his name, and I think it was 4th grade, it may have been 3rd). But that day something hit me, it is etched in the amazing stone structure as you walk in to the National Archive Museum.   I took a picture so not to forget, I keep it in my desk, and look at it often!  It says this “THE HERITAGE OF THE PAST IS THE SEED THAT BRINGS FORTH THE HARVEST OF THE FUTURE”.  For whatever reason, in the heart of this present/future thinker, that saying hit. Even though the fruit of the past can’t, remain, its seed can grow into the harvest of the future.  Too many look for the fruit of the past and not the seed! Old fruit is rotten fruit.  Instead, plant the seed and reap a new fresh fruit.  The seed can be relationship and the fruit would be the outcome of what you now have. Apply this throughout your life, experiences, spiritual moments.  As an 8 year old boy, I remember praying and crying at a youth camp altar.  That was meaningful, but you know what? That was only the seed, it was NOT something that must be duplicated every time,  but rather planted and grown to create future fruit.

PS – there was a kid in Kindergarten named Elijah, he stepped on my AJ Foyt race car and broke it, but I was healed of that last week (30 years later HA!)

    Marty,
That is a great message and one that I needed to hear! You may not remember, but I have a degree in history. I love the past and have always felt we have so much to learn from looking back. Though I love this part of myself/my life, I can get mired in the past. So again, I appreciate these sentiments and am given further proof that if I listen (read in this case) God’s message is there for me!
    Thank you, cousin!:)

    Seeds and the future,
On November 16th 2007 a powerful seed started to grow in me, this is the day my earthly father died. As I watched my earthly father take his last breath, my mind started going crazy. Is he now in a gulf or is he in heaven or is he in a place of torment. I looked up every scripture in the word on death, hell, heaven and I found something that changed my life forever and ever. I found the seed of truth that was giving by my heavenly father who is all of all. Our understanding is not his understanding, our will is not his will. For there is none righteous or seeking the will of God almighty. The seed of the past has blinded his people from the truth. They have ears and can’t hear, eyes and can’t see. God Bless
